Yamashita Tomohisa holds his first solo concert in Korea

NEWS member Yamashita Tomohisa held his first solo concert in Korea on the 16th. This concert was part of his Asia tour, “TOMOHISA YAMASHITA ASIA TOUR 2011 Super Good Super Bad.”

When the concert began, Yamashita thanked his Korean fans for all their support for Japan during these turbulent times. Soon after, the KBS88 Gymnasium was filled the screams of “YamaP!!” Yamashita commented that of all the stops on his tour, Korea had the most power. He said, “I’d like to share this power with Japan.“ Yamashita also shared that he loves to drink but during the concert he wanted to have fun as if he were drinking with everyone. With Johnny’s Entertainment group ABC-Z as his backup dancers, Yamashita and his fans got fired up for an entertaining concert.

Yamashita constantly shouted out “Thank you” and “I love you” out to the fans in Korean. When he tried to speak in English, the fans spoke by shouting out that they would prefer him to speak in Korean. A surprised Yamashita promised that he will practice more Korean for his next concert. He also expressed his interest for the Korean culture, telling everyone that he esst Korean food at least three times a week and even had a lot of Korean food when he arrived in Korea. He also shared that he reads letters from his Korean fans as well.

The two hour concert brought in a total of 4,000 fans. Pleased with the theatrics of the concert, fans called Yamashita up for two encores. Yamashita will have another concert on the 17th.

Melon Kinenbi reunites for the first time since disbanding

On April 17th, the four members of former Hello! Project idol group, Melon Kinenbi, reunited for the first time since breaking up in order to raise funds to donate to victims of the recent disasters.

Murata Megumi (30), who grew up in the Wakabayashi district of Sendai, mobilized other ex-members, Saito Hitomi (29), Otani Masae (29) and Shibata Ayumi (27), and approximately 1200 fans to help collect monetary aid for the devastated prefectures of Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima and Ibaraki. Murata expressed earnestly, “we want to combine the powers of individuals, and send strength to the affected areas. We hope for as speedy a recovery as possible”.

Singer UA expecting third child

Singer-songwriter UA (39) is currently pregnant with her third child, it has been revealed. On April 10, she could not physically attend a screening of director Kamanaka Hitomi’s documentary film “Mitsubachi no Haoto to Chikyuu no Kaiten” in Sagamihara, Kanagawa, but she appeared by live broadcast through Ustream and reported that she is pregnant.

UA was previously living in Sagamihara until her house completely burned down last September. Along with announcing her pregnancy, she also revealed that she and her family have relocated far away to Aso, Kumamoto.

UA married actor Murakami Jun (37) in 1996 and gave birth to a son the following year. The couple divorced in 2006. In 2008, UA remarried with former model Hasegawa Daiki and gave birth to a daughter.

hitomi leaves avex to an independent label, but will still perform “a-nation”

Pop singer hitomi recently revealed her personal feelings about avex on her official blog, shedding some light on her switch from the huge record label to an independent label.

hitomi announced earlier this month that she’ll be releasing a brand new album titled “SPIRIT” on April 21st – her first since giving birth to her first child – but surprised many when she suddenly revealed that the album would be released on an indies label. hitomi has been under avex since she debuted with her single “Let’s Play Winter” in 1994, leaving fans wondering what her reasons were for leaving.

After receiving multiple message from her fans asking about the switch, hitomi replied that she felt as if being at avex didn’t allow her to express her personality through her music. She also assured fans that despite withdrawing from avex, she still maintains a good relationship with her former label: hitomi will still appear at avex’s yearly summer concert “a-nation” to perform.

Why did singer/actor Alex reveal the identity of his girlfriend?

During this week’s broadcast of SBS’s “Night After Night”, 2PM’s Taecyeon, Wooyoung, 2AM’s Seulong, Kim Dongwan, and Alex appeared as guests. During one segment, they were talking about how a singer starts their acting career. During this talk, Alex’s relationship with his girlfriend Jo Hee was brought up as a topic.

When asked specific questions about their relationships, Alex answered, “As everyone here knows, I also thought ‘It will be hard to make our relationship public’. I’m not that old, but I’m still 33 years old. However, I wanted to love this woman both comfortably and beautifully so that’s why it was made public.”

Super Junior’s Kyuhyun assures fans he’s okay

Super Junior’s Kyuhyun, who was previously reported to have been involved in a car accident on April 8th, has revealed that he is in okay condition.

On April 11th, SM Entertainment spoke through TV Report and stated, “He received contusions on his arms and legs due to the accident. Just in case, we had him receive a thorough medical examination, but test results have revealed that there is no further injuries.”

Although Kyuhyun had to cancel his appearance in “The Three Musketeers” on the day of the accident, representatives revealed that his future schedules will not be affected. Kyuhyun will be returning to China with his Super Junior-M members within the month.

His representative continued, “Although he wasn’t severely injured, he has several bad memories regarding accidents, so he is taking a brief break for the sake of his health. He will be going back to the hospital today to receive a final check-up.”

Hyun Bin named “Top Marksman” in military camp

Heartthrob Hyun Bin has been named a top marksman in shooting training at the Marine boot camp in Pohang. The actor has been in boot camp for five weeks since he enlisted in the Marine Corps on March 7.

Democratic Party lawmaker Shin Hak-yong, a retired marine officer himself, was told by the Marine Corps, Hyun scored a full 20 marks in night and day individual firearms training from March 28 until April 2.

Out of about 720 rookie Marines, 16 including Hyun qualified as top marksmen. Hyun hit the target 19 times out of 20 in day shooting training, and all of his 10 shots hit the target at night, a Marine Corps spokesman said. To qualify as a top marksman, rookies must hit the target more than 18 times out of 20 in day training and nine out of 10 at night.

Hyun will finally receive the scarlet insignia, the marines’ battle colors, on April 15 after undergoing extreme endurance training in the last week of boot camp, when rookies march scores of kilometers in full gear and bivouac in open terrain, while reducing meals and sleep to a minimum.

Rookies will be assigned to units in Pohang, Gimpo, Baeknyeong or Yeonpyeong islands in an open computer-aided draw this Friday.

Super Junior introduces Korean cuisine through YouTube

On April 11th, the Ministry for Food, Agrilculture, Forestry and Fisheries revealed that they’ve uploaded videos featuring Super Junior through their official YouTube channel, the Taste of Korea. As reported earlier, the Super Junior boys were selected to be the honorary ambassadors for Korean cuisine, and through the video, they introduced a few cultural dishes.

By promoting through YouTube, the ministry hoped to raise awareness about Korean cuisine to people all over the world. The videos currently have subtitles in English, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean.

Every few days, a new episode will be revealed. Check back at the channel for Ryeowook & Kyuhyun’s Bibimbap, Donghae’s Tofu Stew, Yesung’s Chicken Gangjeong, Leeteuk’s Spicy Rice Cakes, Sungmin’s Kimchi, and Heechul’s Beef Bulgogi.

Girl’s Day performs trot version of “Twinkle Twinkle” on ‘Gag Concert’

The ladies of Girl’s Day tapped into their transforming abilities, as they recently switched it up and became ‘trot idols’ for their guest appearance on KBS2TV’s “Gag Concert“.

On April 10th, the girls began their usual routine for “Twinkle Twinkle“, and then quickly energized the room when they delivered a trot version. Minah especially provided big laughs for the crowd by making funny faces and kkab-dancing to the song.

She continued to change up the lyrics and gave ‘rotten smiles’, showing the audience what she’s made of.
